Design and Simulation of a Closed-Loop controller for Switching Transmitter of Local Positioning System

Closed-loop control sub-system in Long Range Navigation (LORAN) switching transmitter of a Local Positioning System (LPS) has been implemented by two separate parts of phase and envelope signals. The basic idea of synchronizing current and voltage is based on adding a variable inductor in series with the antenna to change the center frequency of loran pulse, equal to 100 kHz. In this condition, the imaginary part of impedance at input of antenna could be zero and thus the antenna model will be pure ohmic impedance. The phase controller is a suitable circuit designed to determine the phase difference and the proportional controller. For pulse envelope extraction, we apply a single pulse and analyzing the current flow through the antenna. Based on measurements and calculations performed for different modes with a change in the range of 10% of equivalent values ​​of the antenna parameters, the controller performs well, with a maximum zero crossing error in the second- to- twelfth pulse equal to 3.49 ns as well as MMSE and maximum peak error in the first 8 half-cycles were equal to 0.01875 and 0.024657, respectively; which meet the required standards and comply with the Loran pulse.
